Welcome To The Party (short story)
Oddly, things got a little bit strange in Mark's party
Mark had been planning his birthday party for weeks. He had gone all out to make sure everything was perfect. He had hired a DJ, ordered an extravagant cake, and even invited a few celebrities he had met through his work as a talent agent. He wanted his party to be the talk of the town, and he was sure it would be.
The night of the party arrived, and the guests started to pour in. Mark greeted each one of them with a big smile and a warm hug. Everything was going smoothly until the strange occurrences started to happen. It started with the caterer who showed up with a parrot on his shoulder.
The young was taken aback, but he figured it was some sort of trendy thing. He quickly got over it and introduced the caterer to the other guests. As the night went on, things started to get even more bizarre. A man walked in wearing a giant chicken costume, clucking and flapping his wings. Mark was stunned but figured it was all in good fun. Then, a group of people dressed as cows walked in, followed by a man in a full-body gorilla suit. The guests were all laughing and having a great time, but Mark couldn’t help feeling a little uneasy. What was going on? Had his party been invaded by some sort of strange animal cult?
As the night wore on, Mark noticed that something was off with the parrot. It had been perched on the caterer’s shoulder all night, quietly observing the party. But now, it was starting to act strangely. The parrot suddenly squawked and flew off the caterer’s shoulder, making a beeline for Mark. It swooped down and landed on his head, squawking loudly into his ear. Mark tried to shake it off, but it clung on, its sharp talons digging into his scalp. The guests all burst out laughing, thinking it was part of the act.
But Mark was not amused. He frantically tried to pry the parrot off, but it wouldn’t budge. The caterer came over to help, but even he couldn’t get the bird to release its grip. Suddenly, the chicken man stepped forward and started clucking loudly. The parrot took one look at him and flew off of Mark’s head, landing on the chicken man’s shoulder. The guests all cheered as the parrot and the chicken man started clucking and squawking at each other. Mark was in shock. He had no idea what was going on or why his party had turned into a zoo. He tried to regain control, but the guests were all having too much fun. They danced and drank and laughed, ignoring Mark’s attempts to bring order to the chaos.
Eventually, the party started to wind down, and the guests started to leave. Mark was left standing in the middle of his living room, surrounded by chicken feathers, cowbells, and gorilla fur. He couldn’t believe what had just happened. As he started to clean up, he realized that he had missed something important. He had been so focused on the strange events of the night that he had completely forgotten about the person he had been hoping to see at the party.
Maddie, his long-time crush, had been invited, but he hadn’t seen her all night. He wondered if she had even shown up. As he was sweeping up feathers, he heard a voice behind him. “Hey, Mark.” He turned around and saw Maddie standing there, a sheepish look on her face. “I’m sorry I didn’t show up earlier,” she said. “I got a little lost on my way here.” Mark couldn’t believe his luck. Maddie was finally standing in front of him, and she looked even more beautiful than he had remembered. He felt a surge of courage and decided to confess his feelings.
“Actually, Maddie, there’s something I need to tell you,” he said, taking a deep breath. “I’ve had a crush on you for a long time now, and I was hoping that tonight would be the night I finally got the courage to ask you out.”
Maddie looked surprised but then smiled.
“Mark, I had no idea,” she said. “I’ve had a crush on you too, but I was too nervous to tell you.”
Mark felt a wave of relief and happiness wash over him. It was as if all the chaos of the night had been leading up to this moment.
“Well, Maddie, I guess this party wasn’t a complete disaster after all,” he said, grinning at her.
Maddie laughed and stepped closer to him. “I guess not,” she said, and then leaned in for a kiss.
As they kissed, Mark couldn’t help but chuckle to himself. Oddly enough, it had taken a strange and wild party to bring him closer to the person he loved. But in the end, it was all worth it.
