They… Do Care?
Who cries to the body that falls cold in a corner of the sidewalk?
Does anyone of the “good citizens” have time to feel something for someone who is not from their family?
They pretend they care, to get on the local news.
Pretend they care, just to get some likes.
But when the cameras turn off they return to their selfishness.
Compassion has become just another vulgar hashtag.
It only serves to try to give some substance to empty profiles.
They tell you that your life is worth neither more nor less than that of the neighbor
Is that true?
Do those shed tears have some honesty?
Perhaps everything is a cheap show, created to attract and convince those that they despise behind closed doors.
Who cries to the body that falls cold in a corner of the sidewalk?
Does anyone of the “good citizens” have time to feel something for someone who is not from their family?
They pretend they care that you can’t breathe
while they are the ones who put the boot over your throat.
They pretend to care, while rewarding those who hurt you.
Hypocrisy gives them shiny medals, which they boast loudly.
They know of no loyalty, other than that of money.
For them, the only God who watches them comes on a greenback.
They believe themselves to be heroes of the nation for hiding behind a weapon.
Their hearts were long lost among a thousand bullets.
Their brothers and sisters crying next to them, but those lords of blind anger no longer listen. They have become deaf to pain.
Who cries to the body that falls cold in a corner of the sidewalk?
Does anyone of the “good citizens” have time to feel something for someone who is not from their family?
Tomorrow, the newspapers will find new news to fill their headlines with more blood.
The rain will wash away the shame left by the hatred of the human species.
What have the rivers of blood that have stained the streets been good for?
Does anyone still hear the howls that are lost in the night?
Perhaps, tomorrow, the first prayer of the day will be heard by someone high up in the sky.
Perhaps, tomorrow, we can embrace each other as brothers instead of looking at each other as enemies.
Maybe tomorrow the children can smile again without fear.
Hope dies last.
